About John Young
John Young has been practicing for over four decades. He has a law degree in addition to his business graduate degrees. He is also a lawyer in the State of Texas. He has worked as in-house counsel for three companies, including being the General Counsel for two public companies. He was an Associate with a large national law firm while in Texas. Before obtaining his law degree, he was Assistant Vice President for a large regional bank and he started his career after obtaining his Bachelor’s in Business Administration as a bank examiner with the Federal Reserve Bank.
Unlike many attorneys who take courses and classwork following their law school years, John Young has his MBA (Master in Business Administration) in Finance . In addition, he has taken numerous courses over the years to keep abreast of current trends and has accumulated over 300 hours of continuing legal education. He focuses his continuing education on topics that will further his practice and advance his business knowledge.

John Young is a member of several C-Suite organizations including the Association of Corporate Counsel and the Executives Association of Greater Detroit. He was the co-owner of a community sponsored baseball team for five years, he is Past President of the Grosse Pointe Theatre, and he is an Elder with the 1st Presbyterian Church of Grosse Pointe.

Adjunct Attorney John P. Young is a proud graduate of Harvard College (’83) and Harvard Law School (’86). After earning his J.D., Mr. Young clerked for the late Honorable Andrew P. Rodovich, a United States District Judge for the Northern District of Indiana. He then served as a law clerk to retired Justice William H. Rehnquist of the United States Supreme Court. Since that time, Mr. Young has practiced law in a number of different capacities. He served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Boston Municipal Court and, after passing the bar exam in the District of Columbia, worked in the Washington, D.C. office of Arnold & Porter doing both plaintiff- and defendant-side commercial litigation. He then represented a major international company as its employee benefits counsel in M&A and other transactions for about 25 years. Currently, he acts as Of Counsel to the Portland office of Wallingford > Kwiatkowski, P.C., where he specializes in employment law and employee benefits matters.
